Review
Our family was already familiar with What’s in the Bible. It’s one of our favorites. In this episode, #10, Michael was back again with Phil and all the Buck Denver gang. The first five to eight minutes was an Old Testament recap, and then they gave a bit of background for the time between the Old and New Testaments.
I really thought the history about Alexander the Great and the Romans road-building was interesting. I like how my kids are learning things I had never even heard of! The quick explanation of the Pharisees, Sadducees, Zealots and Essenes was also very interesting.
I liked how they explained the different gospel books. It was interesting that they gave Luke the credit of writing Acts. I know it’s who most people assume wrote it, but Phil said it like it was a 100% fact.
I really love how they take something so complicated and break it down for everyone, especially kids. I wish they didn’t gloss over the life of Jesus as much as they did. Hopefully they’ll backtrack and go through parables in another dvd? After Jesus died, the characters’ reactions were very realistic and appropriately grieved. Then when Phil talks about Jesus’ resurrection, it was joyful and beautiful!
Overall, I did like this episode a lot, but it wasn’t quite as entertaining as some of them have been. We really missed the Fabulous Bentley Brothers. They always made things so fun, and made the information really stick with their songs. This series is still one of our top picks for our children’s entertainment though. 4.5 out of 5 stars for episode 10!
