Here’s the scene, and I’m sure you’ve been there, too.

Satan whispers before you even begin,

“Don’t even try. You’ll never succeed.”

He hisses in the midst of a trial,

“You can’t do this. Just quit now. You’re on your own.”

When you already feel defeated, he growls,

“It’s okay to give up, nobody cares anyway.”

And you feel lower than you already did. You almost believe him. You almost give up.

But Jesus says you…

are “fearfully and wonderfully made” ([biblegateway passage=”Psalm 139:14″])
    are “justified & redeemed” ([biblegateway passage=”Romans 3:24″])
are “His friend” ([biblegateway passage=”John 15:15″])
are “a child of God” ([biblegateway passage=”John 1:12″])
are “a joint heir with Christ” ([biblegateway passage=”Romans 8:17″])
are “free through His liberty” ([biblegateway passage=”Galatians 5:1″])
are “a new creation” ([biblegateway passage=”2 Corinthians 5:17″])
are “complete in Him” ([biblegateway passage=”Colossians 2:10″])
can “do all things through Christ which strengtheneth {you}” ([biblegateway passage=”Philippians 4:13″])

He calmly says to your heart, reminding you that you are not in this alone

“He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ

    ” ([biblegateway passage=”Philippians 1:6″])

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God

    ” ([biblegateway passage=”Philippians 4:6″])

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things

    .” ([biblegateway passage=”Philippians 4:8″])

He says of the difference between Satan and Himself:

    1. “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy:

I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

    ” ([biblegateway passage=”John 10:10″])

He speaks through His Word with a million verses of Truth every day.

It’s up to you which voice you believe. The voice of lies, that makes you feel incompetent, helpless, worthless and horrible, or the Voice of Truth, that speaks life, grace, hope and love.

What are some things you can do to tune into the right Voice?

1) Bathe yourself in Scripture.

Especially Psalms, Proverbs, and the epistles.

2) Pray without ceasing.

It’s easier to hear God’s Voice of Truth when you’re in constant contact with Him.

3) Surround yourself with life-speakers who…

    point you to the Word
    encourage you in Christ
spur you on to good things
correct you gently in love, not in harsh condemnation

4) Listen to only uplifting, God-honoring music.

Praise songs. Worship songs. Psalms. Hymns. Spiritual songs. Encouraging songs. Challenging songs.

Now I’ll leave you with the encouraging song from Casting Crowns that inspired this post. 🙂

I’d love to hear your best tips to ignore lies and tune into Truth!

God bless,
Jenn

Voice of Truth Lyrics by Casting Crowns
Oh what I would do to have / The kind of faith it takes to climb out of this boat I’m in / Onto the crashing waves // To step out of my comfort zone / To the realm of the unknown where Jesus is / And He’s holding out his hand // But the waves are calling out my name and they laugh at me / Reminding me of all the times I’ve tried before and failed / The waves they keep on telling me / Time and time again, Boy, you’ll never win! / You’ll never win // But the voice of truth tells me a different story / And the voice of truth says, Do not be afraid! / And the voice of truth says, This is for My glory / Out of all the voices calling out to me / I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth // Oh what I would do to have / The kind of strength it takes to stand before a giant / With just a Sling and a stone / Surrounded by the sound of a thousand warriors / Shaking in their armor / Wishing they’d have had the strength to stand // But the giant’s calling out my name and he laughs at me / Reminding me of all the times I’ve tried before and failed / The giant keeps on telling me / Time and time again, Boy, you’ll never win! / You’ll never win // But the voice of truth tells me a different story / And the voice of truth says, Do not be afraid! / And the voice of truth says, This is for My glory / Out of all the voices calling out to me (Calling out to me) / I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth // But the stone was just the right size / To put the giant on the ground / And the waves they don’t seem so high / From on top of them looking down / I will soar with the wings of eagles / When I stop and listen to the sound of Jesus / Singing over me // But the voice of truth tells me a different story / And the voice of truth says, Do not be afraid! / And the voice of truth says, This is for My glory / Out of all the voices calling out to me // I will choose to listen and believe / I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth / I will listen and believe / I will listen and believe the voice of truth / I will listen and believe // Because Jesus you are the voice of truth / And I will listen to you / You are…

JennAbout Jenn: I’m a Christian wife to an amazing man (since 1998) and a stay-at-home-teaching mom to four special & incredible boys (born in 2004, 2005, 2007, & 2009). I’m messy and cluttered, but working on that (really, I am!). I’m a discouraged perfectionist and a classic procrastinator who probably has both ADD & Autism, so I tend to jump from topic to topic (and activity to activity) without notice. My Love Languages are Words of Affirmation and Physical Touch. I’m an INFP who enjoys friends but loves to be alone. I love getting and giving hugs, and encouragement is a Spiritual gift of mine that can too-easily be turned into the weapon of discouragement, if I’m not careful. I enjoy writing, singing, words, drawing, photography, digital creations, and reading. Oh, and pizza, tacos, and steak. Now I’m hungry. That reminds me; I eat gluten free and try to eat organic and avoid white sugar and GMOs as much as possible.  Find me on Facebook (Writer/Editor page) (Fan page), Twitter, Pinterest, or Instagram.

  1. Those 4 things you mentioned – the ways to combat those lies – are spot on. I need His voice of truth every day – our enemy does not rest. I’m doing pretty good with #1, 2 & 4 – but #3 is so hard. It is such a challenge finding godly friends!
    I enjoyed your post!

    1. Thanks, Aimee! I agree the friends one is probably the hardest to work with…But I do count godly friends who are online. They might not be there to give a real hug, but cyber hugs can do wonders sometimes…Praying you’ll find some IRL friends to connect with soon though. Thanks for your visit. 🙂

  2. I LOVE all the scripture you included here, and enjoyed my visit to your page! Pray without ceasing…that is something that I have been doing quite often lately. It has been a great blessing in my life. Talking with God is the best part of my day. 🙂

    1. Thanks for your visit, Laura, and for commenting. I’m glad you enjoyed yourself, and it’s so great to hear from other believers and about their relationship with God. <3

  3. Oh, I’ve been there time and time again. Sometimes I think the enemy does not need to lift a finger to stop you from your destiny or do you harm. One lie is all it takes and you’re down. You do the rest of the work for him by allowing his lie to be your truth. Feeling depressed and discourage. Not shining your light.

Thanks for this truthful post. We need to remember who we are so we’ll know how to fight back. 😀

    1. Thanks for your comments, Lux. You’re so right – sometimes we cause ourselves enough trouble on our own without satan adding his lies.
Thanks for your thoughts, and for visiting. 🙂

  4. God really spoke to me through this. The command to pray without ceasing is there for us so that we do not wander too far.

    1. Oh, Carolyn, I’m so glad to hear that! Praise God. Thanks so much for your visit.

  5. Jenn, this is a great post. I love your four steps. The uplifting music is huge for me. It really encourages me. I listen to K-LOVE all the time in the car, and while I’m at work I listen to Contemporary Christian radio on Pandora. Let’s not allow the enemy to convince us that his lies are true. They are not!

    1. Thanks, Barbara Ann! I appreciate you stopping by. K-LOVE is one of my faves, too. 🙂

  7. Love this song, this reminder to cling to words of truth while drowning out the lies, and the tips on how to do just that. Once these things became a part of my daily life, everything changed for me. My circumstances don’t always change, but my perspective and my heart does.

Thanks for the encouragement. May your cup be filled to overflowing!
