Thanks so much for joining us for our Lights of Hope in Times of Darkness Series! Each post in the series is written by a different author. We hope you’ll be blessed, encouraged, challenged and comforted all at once. Please let us know if you need prayer – we’d love to pray for you!
There is no question that life is full of mountain top highs and deep valley lows.
It’s easy to trust God from the heights, but what about those valleys? Where do we turn to for hope when we find ourselves shrouded in the darkness of difficulty?
I believe there is only one source of true Hope in this life – the God of the Bible. When the darkness closes in we must turn to His Word as a lamp to guide our feet and ask Him to light our paths.
As we grope about in our valley today, let’s cry out to God and ask Him to light up our darkness and lead us out onto the heights once more. Let’s use a passage from the Bible, 2 Samuel 22:26-37 (NLT), to lead us into a prayer.
Dear Heavenly Father, You tell us in Your word Lord that,
“To the faithful You show Yourself faithful;
to those with integrity You show integrity.
To the pure You show Yourself pure,
but to the crooked You show Yourself shrewd.
You rescue the humble,
but Your eyes watch the proud and humiliate them.
Oh Lord, You are my Lamp.
The Lord lights up my darkness.
In Your strength I can crush an army;
with my God I can scale any wall.”
Help us Lord to be faithful; thank You for Your faithfulness to us.
Give us the courage to live a life of integrity; thank You that we can trust that everything You do is right.
Keep us pure and humble before You! You are the One who created the entire Universe.
You are eternal and all powerful and so very, very great! Yet You chose us.
Help us to remember that truth every moment of every day so that we never ever fall into the trap of pride.
We have nothing to boast about apart from You! As we bow before You in that humility right now, God, rescue us!
We are on our faces before You asking You to light up our darkness.
Be our lamp, Oh Lord and give us the strength to defeat this obstacle that stands in our way. Your Word says that:
“God’s way is perfect. All the Lord’s promises prove true.
He is a shield for all who look to Him for protection.
For who is God except the Lord? Who but God is a solid rock?
God is my strong fortress, and He makes my way perfect.
He makes me as surefooted as a deer,
enabling me to stand on mountain heights.
He trains my hands for battle;
He strengthens my arm to draw a bronze bow.
You have given me Your shield of victory;
Your help has made me great.
You have made a wide path for my feet to keep them from slipping.”
Thank You, God, that we can trust You. Thank You for the confidence that we can have in knowing that Your ways are perfect and that all of Your promises prove true!
There is no other god like You! You alone are God! Wrap Your mighty hand around us Lord, and be our Shield! We are looking to You alone to protect us, because only You can.
Lord, everything around us shifts like the sand on the shores, but You are always the same – our Solid Rock! Fortify us in Your tender care.
Make a way through this darkness. We can’t see it right now, God.
We need You to show us Your perfect plan. Steady our feet and lead us out upon the heights! Make a wide and sure path before us and bring us again to the mountain tops in victory.
Renew our joy and give us peace once again. Shine Your bright and beautiful light into our hearts, God, and we will praise You alone for as long as we live!
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
