ok i felt like such a wimp when he was checking me and stripping my membranes a little bit. it hurt soooo bad. i am 50% effaced and a couple centimeters dilated. he said my cervix is behind the baby’s head, which he said is good because the baby’s head is putting more pressure on it, which means it will be very soon. he said since my cervix was so far back and because i was so uncomfortable, he only did a little strip.
i wondered with how badly it hurt how i would handle using no drugs. now i NEVER said i will not use any drugs, i would just like to try without first and see how much i can handle. he told me i could decide up until 9 centimeters dilated about the epidural, which is what i will end up having if i do get anything. but just when he’s doing an internal exam is just SO painful i can’t even believe it. i do NOT have a high tolerance to pain. i know it will be worth whatever pain i go through though. that’s the only consolation!
i am very happy to say that he said the birth plan was totally fine with him and that’s the way he usually does his deliveries anyway. yay!! i was kind of nervous that it would be too anal. but i know he liked that i put IF POSSIBLE on everything, because that is how we feel – we don’t expect things to be picture-perfect, but we’d like to try things the way we want before trying other things. ๐Ÿ˜‰
we did have to make an appt for next week, but doc said he would be very surprised if i needed it.

Jenn, go take a nap! There is nothing wrong with wanting to go without pain meds and there is also nothing wrong with changing your mind when the pain gets to be too much. You want to enjoy this birth!! I can’t wait to see his first picture! Btw, the Christmas pic was SO sweet. ๐Ÿ™‚ Rest easy, that baby will be here soon enough.

Jenn, just remember that birth is a good thing. Each pain will help your little man arrive. When they did the strip…well, it was helping him arrive, but not in the same way as a contraction. Keep that in mind about the pain issue. Hope for that hospital alert soon!

Okay, I have to tell you that when I was in labor with Jon and it was *excruciating*, it hurt way worse when they did an internal! So don’t get too down on yourself, I’m sure you will do fine! ๐Ÿ™‚ ((hugs))

    Hi Jenn,

    Jenn!
Your membranes have been stripped! Woo hoo! Expect cramping and discomfort and discharge. All signs that point to ‘somethings happening.’ I agree with the others: Take a nap and rest as much as you can. Forget cleaning the house. Jer can do that while you are in the hospital. Right now you need to conserve energy. (Something I wish I had done before my two days of labor.)

I also wanted to add that the babe’s room is AMAZING! Remember how controversal those stars where when you painted them? They are so PERFECT for the room. I can’t believe how you’ve made verything come together. Plus, the mural is amazing. Kudos to whoever painted that.

I am keeping you in my prayers.

Hi, sweetie!! Sorry about the *!! When I changed my graphics (for the billionth time this year alone! ๐Ÿ˜€ ) I set up the HTML and was going to actually “update” it next week but I ended up doing it that day instead. (no patience whatsoever! )Sooooo I’ll just have to add it back today! :frog: Still continuing to pray!!! *hugs*

Hurry up and have that baby you have me all excited now. Pain meds or not you will do fine. From experience if you can get to 9cm without pain med you don’t need it after that cause the pushing (to me) is a whole lot easier than those contractions. Little Man is waking up, I’ll be thinking about you and checking your blog often today. Hugs

Every mama has the right to have “her” birth, whatever that may be … you do what you feel is best for you and your baby and that’s all any one can ask of you. You know yourself better than anyone else is … and this isn’t a “pain tolerance contest” this is your birth. (( hugs )):lovey:

That said, by the time you get to 9cm you’re almost there, mama! If you can make it that far, you can cross the finish line ๐Ÿ˜‰

it sounds like things are really happening … I’ll be checking in on you. Could it be Jeremiah doesn’t want to miss the Colts beat the Patriots? ;):D
