Reading together

I consider reading with my children one of my greatest joys. When they are little, they snuggle up on my lap, and I can easily kiss their sweet heads in between words. My youngest will soon be six, so the time has become even more precious. When I saw the opportunity to review the book Mommy Loves You So Much, I decided to do it, even though it was recommended for children from 0-4. My little guy loves all books, even if they are a bit young for him, so I figured we’d be fine.

After signing up for the promotion, Jace and I looked at the sweet flipboard, which showed us what to expect from the book. He was disappointed there wasn’t more to it, since he’s used to reading full ebooks online on Scribd and Kindle. I had to explain to him that the real book would arrive soon, and when it did, he was jumping for joy about “his mail books.”

What we thought

As soon as his package arrived, we instantly read it, along with the other one (review coming soon), and re-read, and re-read…

It is now one of his most beloved books. The illustrations are adorable and beautiful and the simple rhyming story is so sweet. The characters are mama animals and their babies; red pandas, ducks, squirrels, owls, turtles, beavers, polar bears, rabbits, tigers (Jace’s favorite, since he’s my Lil Tiger) and cheetahs. So sweet, and so adorable! This book is one of those thick board books with a kind of puffy cover. He loves looking at it on his own and reading it with whoever can. My mom read it with him and changed “Mommy” to “Gramma.” 🙂

JennAbout Jenn: I’m a Christian wife to an amazing man (since 1998) and a stay-at-home-teaching mom to four special & incredible boys (born in 2004, 2005, 2007, & 2009). I’m messy and cluttered, but working on that (really, I am!). I’m a discouraged perfectionist and a classic procrastinator who probably has both ADD & Autism, so I tend to jump from topic to topic (and activity to activity) without notice. My Love Languages are Words of Affirmation and Physical Touch. I’m an INFP who enjoys friends but loves to be alone. I love getting and giving hugs, and encouragement is a Spiritual gift of mine that can too-easily be turned into the weapon of discouragement, if I’m not careful. I enjoy writing, singing, words, drawing, photography, digital creations, and reading. Oh, and pizza, tacos, and steak. Now I’m hungry. 3. 1. I tell them I love them while snuggling with them. My kids love snuggles, even my 9 year old. Usually by 16 months, kids are squirming away, but my little man likes to snuggle in the mornings and before bed. The older kids, I just tell them. They like space. I have 13 ranging from 24 to 1.
    2. I show them by spending time with them. I do things they want to – watch a movie, bake cookies, crafts, sports, etc. By being there for them when they need me. Watching extra curricular activities, taking photos, family trips, hugs and kisses, listening when they need someone to talk to. I could go on and on.
