Welcome back to my Biz Kids series! I haven’t done them in a while, but this one has been in the works for a couple months. 🙂 I’d love for my readers to welcome Miss Tessa from Tessa’s Treasure Shop to Busy Being Blessed! She’s a beautiful, talented girl who has an awesome mama (my friend Mindy), a great dad, and two beautiful little sisters.
Hi, Tessa! I am so glad to have you with me here today. I have been a fan of your work for quite a while now. You are one talented little lady!
J – What gave you the idea to start making jewelry?
T – well one year i got a jewelry kit and made a pair of earrings and i liked them so i decided to try to make more jewelry and it just kinda took off from there
🙂 J – How much time does it take to make one bracelet or necklace?
T – it depends on how big or small it is maybe 10 minutes
J – How long have you been making jewelry? 🙂
T – since around january 2013 i think
J – And how long have you been selling it?
T – i cant remember
J – LOL. I know that feeling! When did you put up your facebook page?
T – around the time i started selling jewelry
J – What do jewelry supplies typically cost, and how much of them do you typically use for one project?
T – sometimes one strand of a kind of beads can cost 12$ or more and probubly around 30
J – How long does your jewelry last? Is it sturdy? I have made a few pieces that fall apart when my boys get a hold of them.
T – pretty sturdy unless i use the wrong kind of crimp beads witch hold the jewelry to the clasps
J – Did you come up with your business name, or did your mom come up with it?
T – i did
J – Love it! How much time do you spend on making jewelry each day?
T – it depends
J – Okay, now these next couple questions are from my son, Jeremiah (ten years old):
Is your jewelry expensive?
T – no we try to keep it inexpensive
J –
Have you ever wanted to keep one of your creations made for someone else all for yourself?
T – yes
J –
Is it tiring to make them? Does it hurt your hands? How many can you make in one sitting before you get too tired?
T – i can make 4 or 5 when i feel creative
J – Josiah (9) wonders if you have any pearl beads, because he thinks that would make a beautiful necklace. 🙂
T – i do
J – Jamin (7) had to get in on the action and wonders if you have any jewels. 🙂
T – yes
J – (Ms. Jenn again!) What do you think the next step for your jewelry-making business will be?
T – i want to sell jewelry at the crasy water festaval in town
J – That sounds fun! Hope it works out well for you. I notice you have an etsy site as well as your facebook page. That’s a great idea. Do you plan on opening a website as well, at least as a re-direct to your etsy page?
T – i will think about makeing a website
J – I see many lovely things in your etsy shop. Is it difficult to add things to it, or do you just forget about adding things to it?
T – i just forget sometimes
🙂 J – It is very obvious that you are an artistic little girl. I have seen that you love to draw. Have you considered branching out to other art mediums? I could see some of your art pages scanned and put onto cards, t-shirts, and other things, at someplace like Zazzle.
T – i will look into it
J – Is there anything you’d like to tell other kids who might want to start a business at home?
T – try hard and you can do it
J – Thanks. 🙂 Is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
T – i like to ride horses
J – Fun! Can you leave us with a little something else about yourself that’s not business-related? How old are you? And Jeremiah wants to know if you have any animals. 🙂
T – i am 10 years old and have 3 dogs and 1 cat and 7 fish
J – He is 10 as well, so Biz Kids is really inspiring to him. 🙂 He wants you to know we have two cats right now, too. 😉

Thank you so very much for your nice feature on Tessa. I am a bit biased as I am her grandmother, but I know how hard she works at making her jewelry and how lovely it is. I know others who have worn her jewelry and have received many compliments on it. I think my favorite piece of jewelry in her Etsy store is her turquoise and aqua necklace.
It is so nice to see such a sweet young girl pursue what makes her happy! I’ll also add that she is quite good at making jewelry! Good job Tessa and God bless you sweet child!
I enjoyed reading about Tessa’s jewelry-making. I pray God’s best blessings will be hers throughout her life!
There is nothing more precious than seeing sweet girls engage in business. May she be blessed going forward.
