Grace of God: A Story of Easter Traditions Based on the Ten Commandments

Synopsis:
Having lost his faith many years ago, Detective Bill Broadly is called to investigate the disappearance of the local church’s collection plate. As he questions its various church members, rumors swirl as more congregants learn about the theft. When one unexpected church-goer confesses to stealing the funds, the confession resurrects Broadly’s views on God, and helps him see that through faith and belief there really is rebirth and redemption.
My thoughts:
Before I received the Grace of God movie, I noticed there was another movie from the same series on Netflix. I like the fact that the same pastor is in each story (John Ratzenburger), pulling them all together in a cohesive tapestry.
Pros:
I appreciate a clean, family-friendly movie that can bring good discussions.
There was no bad language and nothing offensive.
The actors were good and the story line was entertaining. I really liked the main actress and her daughters; they were very believable. I also liked the guy who played the pastor. He had a really great scene that was very moving.
Cons:
The script was a little forced at times, and the background music was atrocious.
I wondered how it was a story of Easter traditions.
In addition, I did not understand the very end of the movie – the very last line confused my husband and me. I’d love to know what it meant.
Neutral:
I really can’t put this as a mark against the movie, since the 10 Commandments was in the title, but I find it sad and disturbing when people go back to the law. Jesus came to fulfill the law, so that we don’t have to worry about it. We are to walk in the Spirit and our doing good things should be out of a loving response to Him, our Savior. NOT because we don’t want to get into trouble. I won’t get into a long theological debate here, but I just don’t agree it’s good to try to force good behavior.
In conclusion:
There are some things that I would caution fellow believers about before recommending this movie to unsaved friends. However, I think it would be fine for a family to watch and discuss. Any theological concerns could be talked out calmly among family. It’s entertaining and inspiring, and so much cleaner than watching one of Hollywood’s offerings!

Do you think that the Grace of God maybe meant since God is so forgiving that the character received the Grace of God when he came back to Him? (regarding your statement: The grace of God is unearned favor, but the movie was about stealing, and someone returning to their faith.) Even though he did such a bad thing, God’s grace forgave him and accepted him back as a child of God. I don’t know, I haven’t seen it, just an idea…
It’s possible, Kim. I just think God’s grace is so amazing that it should be fully explained and delved into…People shouldn’t have to wonder. Also, there were no Easter traditions mentioned at all, that I recall.
