To be upfront, I have loved each Heirloom Audio Production I’ve heard, so when I was approached to review an adventure, I jumped at the chance to hear a new one. The title The Cat of Bubastes had all of us curious – would there be a talking cat? A magical cat?

It turns out the cat wasn’t actually the star of the show, but it makes for a great title.

We first listened to the story on the way to and from soccer practice. Since my 4 boys have high functioning autism, they find it easier to listen to things when they have nothing else to do. (Keepin’ it real, folks!)

Just like other audio dramas put out by Heirloom Audio Productions, the cast was incredible, the story amazing, and the whole drama exciting and adventure-filled. They call their product “Audio Theater” and it’s true! It’s like you’re watching a movie in your head.

If you grew up with Adventures in Odyssey, like I did, you’ll see similarities, but they put even more realistic sounds into these dramas. The soundtracks are always incredible, too!

I love how Henty (and HA) bring stories to life so vividly and also have such true faith weaved into the story. It’s a blessing and joy to not have to pause it to explain what was wrong with this or that. We did talk a bit about Egyptian customs and how wrong they were, and it was cool to see the boys while they “witnessed” the characters’ development and change.

My nearly 13 year old says, “It was very humorous. I especially liked the part when they made Jethro look like an Egyptian, using camel urine. Also funny was when Amuba explained to Jethro that the guards were saying he smelled like animal dung. So the poor guy smelled of camel a lot!”

Synopsis: From the shimmering sands of ancient Egypt, comes an epic tale of mystery, intrigue, and suspense. The young prince Amuba and his faithful mentor Jethro are captured by the Egyptians and enslaved in the beautiful city of Thebes. They soon find themselves trapped in a murderous plot to attack the family of their Egyptian friend, which will severely test their loyalty. Along the way, Amuba and Jethro discover the mystery and the wonder of God’s providence. Ranked as one of Henty’s most popular novels, this audio adventure will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish!
